Disposable Bag Usage Down

Mass Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) announced that there has been a 33% reduction in number of disposable paper and plastic shopping bags distributed in Massachusetts since 2007. Read more about the power of reusable bags...

In a press releases dated November 17, 2011, MassDEP celebrated the achievement of their joint initiative with the Massachusetts Food Association (MFA).   The initiative was originally launched in 2009 and reached its goal of a 33% reduction well before its 2013 goal.  Participating grocery chains include: Big Y Supermarkets, Crosby's, DeMoulas Market Basket, Donelan's, Foodmaster, Hannaford Bros., Price Chopper, PriceRite, Roche Bros., Shaw's Supermarkets, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., and Trucchi's.
