Commercial Solar - How It Works
- Solar electric panels can be mounted flush on a pitched roof or tilted on a flat membrane roof with a non-penetrating ballast mount.
- An inverter is mounted indoors, usually in the utility room near the main breaker. In some cases multiple smaller inverters can take the place of one larger inverter.
- During daytime business hours, the energy from the solar electric system will offset your daily electrical usage.
- If the business is closed on weekends, the solar system is still producing electricity on sunny days, even if the office isn't using any.
- The net result is a lower annual electrical bill and a positive impact on the environment.
Solar for Business
Perhaps you have a business with an expansive roof. Why not cover it with solar panels? There has never been a better time for a business to put up a solar electric system in Massachusetts. The grants are excellent and the tax benefits are substantial. Lock in your electrical rate today, and make the smartest investment available.
Net Metering
When your system is making electricity, you buy less from your electric utility. If your system is making more electricity than your home is using, your meter runs backwards. At the end of your billing cycle, you pay only for the net electricity you use - the amount you took from the grid minus what your system put back on the grid. The state's investor-owned utilities must offer net metering. Municipal utilities are not obligated to offer net metering, but they may do so voluntarily.
